After a few weeks finding our feet, we’re getting a bit addicted to StumbleUpon.
It’s a fantastic way to build traffic and find new blog readers but more than that – it’s just a brilliant way to find cool stuff.
Sure, Pinterest is brilliant if you want to imaginary-decorate your imaginary library in your imaginary Cape Cod summer rental (just me?) but StumbleUpon is home to the useful, the weird, the snarky and the inspiring – and you never know which you’re going to get when you hit that Stumble button.
Here are our ten favourite Stumbles from August :
At Good Reads, pop in the titles of books you’ve recently enjoyed, or your favourite genres, and the site will recommend new books for you. Because I can tell you, just because a friend tells you that Eat, Pray, Love is wonderful and won’t make you want to rip out your own eyes and bleach them does NOT make it true.
If your friends’ taste in music is as suspect at their taste in books, you should also check out Everyone’s Mix Tape, a collection of playlists for every occasion, from summer barbecues to parties and Sunday mornings at home
My best friend calls Facebook the greatest crowdsourced piece of fiction in human history. Because – let’s face it – we’re all just a little wittier and shinier there than in real life, aren’t we? Maybe that’s why we loved this illustration from Comical Concept

Did you know that on StumbleUpon you can search categories of content? And one of the categories is just called ‘oddities’. Click on this baby, and you’ll never have a bored evening again, friends. I laughed like a drain at this note found on a lamppost. TOTALLY going to try this outside my house…
Sometimes, when you’re a parent, nobody takes the time to compliment you. It’s all, “You burned the toast, Mummy,” and “Why don’t I have any clean clothes?” Tsk. That’s why you need a site like The Automatic Flattery Generator. Perfect for those ‘down’ days.
Ever had an annoying neighbor? A dispute over music, lights, or parking? This is the site for you – a textbook illustration of how to annoy your annoying neighbour so much he will never speak to you again. Read the whole conversation thread for the full effect.

Lastly this month, do you ever feel your Facebook cover photo lacks pizazz? Want to do something REALLY cool? Here are some amazing tips to help you turn your cover photo into something a bit special…oh, and if you’re not following us on Facebook yet, you can find us here. *cough*
Stumble isn’t just for silly things, though. You can get proper recipes there, and everything. Like these jello shots. Probably better for grown up parties, mind, given the ingredient list. But don’t they look pretty?
If you need inspiration for children’s birthdays, though, StumbleUpon can also help you. We love these Lego inspired birthday cakes.
There’s really useful stuff for parents on the Internet – the trick is knowing where to find it. We loved this tutorial showing parents how to teach your kids to hit a ball with a bat. I’ll be honest, we’ve been struggling with this one ALL summer, so this post on Men’s Health has come at the perfect moment.
If you want to get started with StumbleUpon, you can register here, and you can download a browser toolbar extension that lets you submit pages and explore pages at the click of a button. You can follow us too – we’re @tots100 on StumbleUpon. We can’t wait to see what you stumble upon!

Possibly an odd question – are you able to stumble posts on Safari? I haven’t worked out how to add the right buttons to my toolbar. At the moment I can only do it using Firefox, which involved charging up my laptop. Any ideas?
Should be fine to – there’s a browser extension for Safari on the download page, just restart the browser and it should be ok. there is a tutorial here: http://www.wikihow.com/Download-the-Stumbleupon-Toolbar-on-Safari
Love love love this post! Must get on there more often. First to find some extra time…
