Hurrah, hooray hurroo it’s Friday! Our guest editor for the Ten at Ten this week is the lovely Alice from An Essex Wife.
Three things you didn’t know about Alice:
- Alice is a massive Leyton Orient fan, and actually met her husband while at a football match!
- She cannot pronounce the word ‘Variety’, and so refuses to watch the Royal Variety Performance as her whole family keep asking what’s on TV just to make her say the word (only family would be that cruel. Funny, but cruel…).
- She’s a cheese-o-holic – and has been known to spend £20 of a weekly shop just on different types of cheese.
Alice’s favourite joke:
How do you turn a duck into a soul singer?
Put it in the microwave until he’s Bill Withers.
Alice Writes…
When I sat down to write this post I knew that I really wanted to share Katie from Mummy, Daddy and Me Makes three talking about how good friends are like stars, you may not always see them, but they are always there. This was exactly how I was feeling this weekend when all my lovely friends, who I don’t see anywhere near as often as I should, came over to celebrate my birthday. However she trumped herself the following day posting Has Motherhood Changed Me? A wonderfully warm and insightful piece summing up the love I feel for my little ladies perfectly and, I’m not ashamed to admit, bringing a tear to my eye.
Another post stiring my emotions this week is the updates coming to us from Sian of Geek is The New Chic all the way from Niger. Travelling there with World Vision, Sian is a shining example of what blogging power can achieve. If you would like to keep up to date with her journey then follow the #shareniger hashtag on twitter. Her first update Digging for Water is now live.
Next it has to be food post. Anyone who knows me, reads my blog or follows me on Twitter will know I love me food. This week Kate from The Five F’s Blog has done vegetarian edition of her Meal Planning Monday and with me being not very keen on meat this has been perfection for me. I cannot wait to try the Roast Veggie Mousakka with Feta. Nom Nom.
With many of my friend currently pregnancy or hopefully soon to be pregnant I am forever being asked the dreaded question ‘So what is pregnancy really like?’. I’m faced with a dilemma, do I go along with the story that all first time pregnant ladies expect of how they have 9 beautiful, blossoming months ahead or, do I tell the truth? Well from now on I will direct them towards Chez Mummy’s honest but witty portrayal of what to expect when you’re expecting.
Following on from that theme it was lovely to ready about the beautiful (Mostly) Yummy Mummy loving her time in the Big Smoke last weekend but, more importantly, enjoying being away from the children and finding Time to be Me (well not being me obviously, being her, but you know what I mean). We all love our children with every essence of our being, but its always good to admit remember time away from them once in a while helps us to recharge.
If you are looking for a giggle then here are two stories of children saying the funniest things that I just love. Older Single Mum shares an amusing conversation with her son about how much he loves her called I Love You With All My…..What? and Heather from Young and Younger shares her Baby Talk with her adorable little girl Ez.
If this sunshine has turned your attention towards holidays then you may be asking how to survive this time of year with your beloved children. The ever-amusing Ministry of Mum has a wonderful tongue in cheek look at her Top Tips for Traveling with Children over on her blog this week, and she is off for a lovely two week holiday so lets all wish her a lovely time (not jealous at all, honest)
Finally, I cant close this week’s 10 at 10 without a special mention for all things Jubilee. I am totally in love with the Royals and am so excited for next month’s celebrations. My planning and preparation has already began and I have cleared most shops of anything they are selling with Union Jack on, so I am really enjoying all posts relating to The Royal Knees-Up!

Thanks for including me! What a great bunch of bloggers to be mentioned with. Oh, and I’m a sucker for that Bill Withers joke too. In fact, it makes me quack up every time
