How Parent Bloggers Make Money

make money from blogging

Back in December, we asked Tots100 bloggers about how they make money from blogging. More than 500 of you told us about what you earn, how you earn it, and what you wanted to know about monetising your blog.

We’ve taken your answers, together with advice from some of the best minds in the PR and blogging communities, and teamed up with RealWire to create a FREE 34 page eBook that will help you every step of the way if you choose to start earning money from blogging.

How Parent Bloggers Make Money will tell you exactly what other bloggers are earning, and what is a ‘typical’ rate for commercial content on blogs.

Our research findings include:

  • 59% of parent bloggers already make money from their blogs
  • Overall, 90% of bloggers would like to monetise their blogs
  • 22% of parent bloggers use sponsored posts to make money
  • 17% of bloggers have paid advertising on their blog
  • 67% of bloggers are frustrated by irrelevant pitches from PR agencies
  • 88% of parent bloggers have received free samples from brands or PRs
  • One in three bloggers £500+ a year blogging, and some bloggers are earning £5,000+ a year from their blog

If you’re a Tots100 blogger, you can download the How Parent Bloggers Make Money eBook completely free from the new ‘eBook’ area in your Tots100 account – just log-in, and click on the ‘eBook’ link in your account profile.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be adding lots more free eBooks, tutorials and other content for our members to this area of the website, giving our members access to detailed, practical, independent advice on blogging and social media. If you’d like to register your blog with us, then you can do so here.

Great info but isn’t nice when you find a blog without all the sales pitches and banners?

Thanks for commenting – I hope lots of people will find the information useful!

I’m not sure I agree that blogs without ads are necessarily nicer, though. I see some blogs with ads that are still beautiful and a pleasure on the eye, and others with no ads that are very dense and hard to read – it’s really about what the blogger can do with the content. And of course, great content trumps everything else, for me.

None of this applies to my blog, which looks like it was designed by someone with no design skills AND no technical skills, of course :)

In over three years of blogging I’ve never received a single PR pitch. I’m not whining but boy I must be doing something wrong hahaha!

Wow. Must be because you’re perfect as you are :)

Also, from a “brand” perspective, those who are active in trying to monetise their blog could do more to help sell themselves. A request for a product to review or a donation towards a seminar/networking event along with reader numbers isn’t the best promotion of you blog. PR wants to know ‘What’s in it for them’.

I believe tots100 have a guide to a media pack, which looks pretty good (Sally may have to direct to it) & has some good info that will make you stand out a little more.

My blog is not only directed at parents. I would prefer not to have adverts for parents and children … so I am not sure tots100 can help me. I am however going to have a look. I would value any thoughts on the way I can proceed
    with many good wishes

I’ve requested the download. Very much looking forward to reading it. If you have unlocked the mystery of monetisation, you will have made a lot of us very happy *turns central heating up to HIGH, in anticipation of windfall*

Thanks Sally, this will be something I’m sure all us bloggers will be thankful for. When looking for rates to quote for a sponsored link a month or so back I was only able to gain good info for those in UK from your past post of what bloggers should be charging. Very thankful for all u do Sally, your wonderful:) Claire Louise.x
